About

starkweather grads

Starkweather Academy provides students with a fresh start in a smaller, flexible learning environment while maintaining the same high academic standards as Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP). With an average class size of just 18 students, our academy offers personalized attention, daily academic support, and a structured yet adaptable approach to learning.

Our students experience significant academic growth, with nearly a 50% improvement in passing rates and an average GPA above 3.0. Through credit recovery and acceleration options—including online coursework, work-based learning, and community service—students can stay on track for graduation at their own pace.

At Starkweather, students benefit from a calm, safe atmosphere with strong support systems, including dedicated counselors, advisors, and social workers. While we do not offer extracurricular activities on-site, students can participate in P-CEP athletics, clubs, and events.

For students seeking a smaller school setting with personalized support, Starkweather Academy offers the tools and resources needed to succeed. Learn more about enrollment by contacting your school counselor or visiting the P-CCS Enrollment page.

Our Mission

Starkweather Academy promotes lifelong learning by offering a comprehensive educational program addressing individual educational goals and preparing all students to achieve personal excellence and become successful contributing members of society.

Our Vision

As part of Plymouth-Canton Community Schools and the Plymouth-Canton community, we will provide an educational program that promotes the success of alternative and adult learners.

The Alternative/Adult Education program for the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is housed at Starkweather Academy. It includes a high school completion program, leading to a P-CCS diploma and a cap & gown graduation ceremony, as well as Adult English as A Second Language program.  Basic Education and GED prep.  We run 4 quarters on a traditional school calendar.  Our students must have enrolled a full year at a high school and be at least sixteen-years old before September 1st of the current school year.  We accept students from any district within the state of Michigan prior to the start of school in September.

High school classes meet daily from 9 a.m.-2:55 pm. in a block schedule that includes 3 classes and an academic support period, used to get extra help or earn additional credit through Independent Study.  Adult classes generally meet 2 days a week for 2 to 3  hours depending on class and have both daytime and evening classes available.  A standard full day student will take 3 classes for 4 quarters, up to 12 total in the year.  In most cases the same as a traditional school plus the opportunity to earn more, if willing and able.  Independent Study courses are offered throughout the the day to allow students to complete credits in an accelerated format.  Students must contact transportation at 734-416-3032 to receive bus pick-up/drop off location and time.

Busing is available for in district students to school at 9:00 a.m. and home at 3:30 p.m. daily.  Students must contact transportation at 734-416-3032 to receive bus pick-up/drop off location and time.

Looking for a Smaller, More Flexible Learning Environment?
Starkweather Academy could be the place for you!

We understand that some students thrive in a different setting. Starkweather Academy offers a supportive, personalized approach with smaller class sizes and flexible learning options. Designed for students 16 and older, our program helps students stay on track for graduation while receiving the guidance they need.

Please note that enrollment priority will be given to students who are behind on credits and have more years in high school if program capacity is reached.

Students who have recently moved to P-CCS must complete district registration. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
