Adult Education

Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a free program that helps adults improve their reading, writing, and math skills. 

Eligibility 

• You must be at least 18 years old
• You must not be enrolled in high school and/or have a diploma 
• You must need to improve your basic skills in reading, writing, or math
• Literacy below 9th grade level

Program Overview

• Reading and writing: ABE classes teach basic reading and writing skills 
• Math: ABE classes teach basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

Adult Basic Education Registration

A high school completion program helps students earn a high school diploma. 

Eligibility 

• You must be at least 18 years old with at least 16 high school credits
• You must not be enrolled in high school and/or have a diploma 
• Your transcript will be reviewed to determine your eligibility

Program Overview

• Adult students participating in high school courses will be enrolled at the discretion of the Principal following the review of the students record and interview.
• Qualified students can enroll in a combination of online and in class courses.
• Students taking online courses must report in person to the school site to take course exams.

Register for Adult High School Completion

A GED program is a program that helps students prepare for and take the General Educational Development (GED) test. The GED is a series of four subject tests that certify a student's academic knowledge is equivalent to a high school diploma. 

What's included in a GED program?

• Preparation classes: Classes that teach the skills needed to pass the GED test 
• Practice tests: Tests that help students determine their readiness for the GED test 
• Test scheduling: Assistance with scheduling the GED test and getting test results 

Where can you take a GED program?

• In person classes
• Online classes 
• Day and evening classes 

Who can take the GED? 

• Students must be at least 18 years old
• Students must be able to read and write English at the 9th grade level
• Students must have 9th grade math skills
• Students will take a placement test

What's the GED test made up of? 

• The GED test consists of four subjects:
  • Mathematical Reasoning
  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Social Studies
  • Science

Register for GED Program

English as a Second Language (ESL) programs teach English to people whose primary language is not English. ESL programs can help students develop their English language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 

What ESL programs teach 

• Grammar: Students learn the rules of English grammar
• Reading: Students learn how to read English texts
• Writing: Students learn how to write in English
• Vocabulary: Students learn new English words
• Comprehension: Students learn how to understand English
• Culture: Students learn about American culture

Who takes ESL programs

• International students: ESL programs help international students learn English or improve their English skills 
• Adults: ESL programs help adults who are not native English speakers learn English

Program Overview

• All students will take a placement test to determine their English level
• All testing is done in person at Starkweather Academy
• Cost is a one time non-refundable fee of $50 (cash or check payable to PCCS)
